JOHN JENKINS
PASSES
TO HIS END
John Jenkins, who some years ago was talked of as a candidate for mayor
of Portsmouth on the Democratic ticket and who at one time was the local
B.& O. S. W. yardmaster, died at his home in Sciotoville Thursday evening.
Mr. Jenkins death was due to uremic poisoning with which he had been
suffering for some time. Since living out in Sciotoville he had been following
the occupation of a brickworker.Mr. Jenkins was 55 years of age and was
a son of the late Joseph Jenkins, head of one of the oldest
families in the
county. The aged mother is still living
at the old homestead in what is known
as the Kettle settlement near Scioto Furnace. The son was at one
time a
prominent figure in local affairs but of late years had not been interested in
them. He was a former Odd Fellow and Knight of Pythias. His first wife died
two years ago and a year ago he married
a Miss. Muhn, of Sciotoville,
who survives him. The funeral will take place from the Christian church at
Sciotoville Saturday morning at 9 oclock.
