Robert Payton, 76
  Robert Payton, 76, of Sciotoville, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Edgewood Manor Convalescent Center in Lucasville.
  He was born Oct. 12, 1923, in Portsmouth, a son of the late Charles Payton and Nettie Branham Payton Courtright. He was a retired superintendent for OSCO Industries and a World War II Army veteran having served in the 82nd Airborne Division and a participated in the invasion of Europe. He landed at St. Marie Eglese and became a prisoner of war. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church, where he was a sound technician for more than 22 years.
  Surviving are his wife, Alma Evans Payton, whom he married May 19, 1943, in Greenup, KY.; two sons, Robert D. Payton of Lima and David Payton of Slocum Station; one daughter, Pamela Lanham of Lexington, KY.; one brother, William Payton of Wheelersburg; one stepbrother, Chester Courtright of Dayton; four sisters, Elizabeth Bailey and Agatha Neese, both of Cleveland, Garnet Hill of Wheelersburg and Bonnie Williams of Xenia; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
  He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Justice and Goldien Breece; and one stepsister, Ella Arthurs.
  Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Berean Baptist Church, with Pastor Tim Wright officiating, and interment in Memorial Burial Park, with military honors by James Dickey Post American Legion.
  Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brant Funeral Home in Sciotoville, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
  The family’s favorite charity is the Berean Baptist Church Missionary Fund.
